Overview

How your benefit is calculated plus a brief overview of the benefits available to members in service and your options when you leave Police.

Retirement options

You don’t have to withdraw your savings when you leave Police. You can choose to remain in the scheme as a retained member.

First-home withdrawal

You can apply to access your savings in PSS towards the purchase of a first home in the same way as KiwiSaver members.

Partial withdrawals & in-service benefit

You may be eligible to make a withdrawal from your member's account while in service. This page explains the two types of withdrawals, including eligibility and limits on withdrawal amounts.

Age 65 withdrawal

You can access funds in your member’s and employer’s accounts from age 65 while still in service. This includes ongoing partial or total withdrawals. Withdrawals must be $5,000 or more.

Significant financial hardship

You may apply for a benefit due to significant financial hardship. It is not an automatic benefit. However, If your application is reasonable and appropriate and falls within the guidelines, we will do our best to help you.

Relationship property settlements

You may apply to make a withdrawal from the scheme to settle a division of your relationship property.

Loan security

You may be able to use your benefit in the scheme as security for a loan. If you do, a charge will be registered against your benefit in the scheme.

Death benefit

This page explains the process for claiming a death benefit from the PSS. Your death benefit is paid to your legal personal representative. This means your executors (if you have a will) or the administrators of your estate (if you do not have a will)
